Patrice Barakat

Patrice grew up training with the industry's top professionals. With this training she has since become one of California's most sought after choreographers. Patrice is in high demand across the country as guest choreographer for various studios and special events including the Orange Bowl and Silicon Valley halftime shows.

Patrice has traveled internationally and her choreography has been seen in Australia as well as Japan. Patrice is the resident choreographer for the National College Dance Team Back to Back Champions, the University of Tennessee. She also is the founder, choreographer, and director of the highly successful intensive, Destination Dance which takes place in Los Angeles, CA.

Patrice was on staff with Showbiz the Class for two seasons, traveling across the country teaching master classes. Patrice's students have been awarded numerous National Titles, appeared in Television, Feature Films, Industrials, Videos, and are currently in Grease on Broadway. Patrice takes great pride in working with all ages, and all levels, and loves to instill confidence and the power of "Believing" in all that study with her.


Marissa Osato

A Southern California native, Marissa graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Dance and B.A. in Literary Journalism. She is the co-founder of the Boogiezone Contemporary Class as well as Boogiezone’s contemporary dance company, ENTITY. Marissa has danced with modern dance legend Donald McKayle’s repertory company, Etude Ensemble, Boogiezone’s professional hip hop team, BREED Dance Company, Erica Sobol's CollidEdance, and Tessandra Chavez’s Unity LA. Represented by The Movement Talent Agency, she has performed on television shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance, and has worked with musical artists such as Coldplay, Rihanna, Patti LaBelle and Charice. A passionate educator, Marissa has taught master classes across the U.S. and in Europe, Australia, and South America. Her unique and dynamic style fuses elements of jazz, lyrical, and hip hop. Currently, Marissa teaches at EDGE Performing Arts Center in Hollywood, tours with the prestigious national convention, West Coast Dance Explosion as a full-time faculty member, and co-directs ENTITY Dance Company. Marissa is all about positivity, support, and shared inspiration!


Jacy Barney

Jacy Rae Barney, is versatile in all styles of dance including Tap, Jazz, lyrical, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, and gymnastics. She is certified by United Spirit Association in dance technique and has a diploma in performing arts. Jacy was chosen to represent the United States in Barcelona Spain winning world titles as a member of the American dance company and choreographs for many competitive dance studios winning numerous top overall awards as well as creativity and choreography recognition. She won two college dance team titles which aired on ESPN and has coached at the Anaheim Angels stadium for the NCIF championships, and was head coach of the Edison High school Song Team. Jacy was crowned national “Miss Dance USA” and was awarded Dance Spirit Magazines “Future Star of the Year Award.” She assisted at Company dance convention with Brian Friedman, Gregg Russell, Barry Youngblood, and Tyce Diorio and currently travels on weekends working for KAR dance competition. Jacy is signed with MSA agency in Hollywood and dances for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Performance credits include the “Beach Blanket Babylon Scholarship for the Arts” showcase at Club Fugazi in San Francisco, Beat it down, A chorus Line and “Get up and move” Haiti Benefit. She was a soloist at the renowned duke theater on times square “Broadway dance showcase” and can be seen Dancing in the MTV Video Music awards with the Jonas Brothers and rapper TI. You may also have seen Jacy in commercials for Monday night football and Bacardi Limón or in the video for D. Woods (Danity Kane) “Legalize Me”. She is on the big screen dancing in the #1 comedy movie of the year “Easy A” and the “Hannah Montana Movie.” Jacy signed under the R&B singer Ciaras’ Label and had the opportunity to choreograph for her Universal Dance and talent agency auditions. She spent one season cheering for the Anaheim arsenal basketball team and performed in Las Vegas representing alumni pro cheerleaders during the Superbowl.

She hopes to continue dancing and sharing her passion for dance while motivating kids to be the best they can be.


Rachael Hopkins

Rachael started dancing at 9 years old at 2 large Central Florida studios in the subjects Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Pointe, and Hip Hop. After graduating from high school, she went on to study family and social psychology at the Florida State University. There she joined the "Golden Girls" dance team, where she was captain and choreographed for the three years she was on the team.

At 20 years old, she began spreading her love for dance at the Dance P.A.D. in Orange City, FL where she was a teacher and choreographer for recreational and competitive dancers. Her specialities include contemporary-jazz, lyrical, and musical theatre... though she appreciates and truly loves all styles. She teachers and choreographs around the U.S. for various studios and dance teams and has been recognized regionally and nationally for her choreography.

Rachael has performed in an Off-Broadway show at the Radio City Music Hall, and at the Choreographer's Carnival in L.A. Rachael has also worked for and counseled a major dance event called "The Dance Sessions," co-founded by Sonya Tayeh and Chris Jacobsen. She's also worked closely with and danced for choreographers such as: Ray Leeper, Mandy Moore, Dee Caspry, Caroline Lewis Jones, Chris Jacobsen, Sonya Tayeh, Justin Giles, Brooke Pierotti, Jenn Freeman, Monique Smith, and Craig Hollamon.

She values the beautiful connections she made and people that she's met on her journey through dance. Perhaps the most beautiful connection was with Patrice several years ago; giving her the opportunity to move to California and pursue a more serious dance, choreographic, and teaching career. She looks forward to sharing her undying love and passion for dance with all dancers, and is so excited and honored to be the newest member of the Cutting Edge family.


Krystal Matsuyama

originally from Long Beach, California, started training in ballet under the direction of Terri & Anthony Sellars at Orange County Dance Center. In 2008, she graduated Cum Laude with a BFA in Dance Performance & minor in Digital Arts from the University of California, Irvine. During her time at UC Irvine she worked extensively with the legendary Donald McKayle, Douglas Becker, and had the honor of assisting former Joffrey Prima Ballerina Jodie Gates on a choreographic commission with the StaatsBallett Berlin. In addition to her training at UC Irvine, Krystal trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre & San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. After graduating from UCI, she moved to New York to work with Complexions Contemporary Ballet under the direction of Dwight Rhoden & Desmond Richardson where she toured both nationally and internationally. Over the past several years she has been a member of Boogiezone’s Contemporary Company ENTiTY, Mike Esperanza’s BARE Dance Company, and guest performed with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker. Since moving back to Los Angeles, Krystal has signed with MSA Agency where she most recently performed for the music, fashion, & dance charity event Macy’s Passport: Glamourama. She is forever indebted to her supportive family & friends who constantly challenge, inspire, & make her laugh daily, and is so happy to be a part of another amazing family at Cutting Edge Dance Center.


Francine Zubiate

Francine started dancing at the age of 7 receiving her training at several local studios in Los Angeles and Orange County. She competed regionally and nationally for ten years and was invited to dance in Spain and Japan. She went on to study dance at Mt. San Antonio college as a member of the Repertory Dance Company later transferring to Cal State Fullerton.

As dance instructor she spends a lot of her time traveling with Kids Artistic Revue as a National Judge. Francine has been teaching along side Patrice and Suzanne Barakat for many years at one of the top studios in Southern California. Due to her well rounded training, she teaches several styles of dance including jazz, lyrical, ballet, tap and hip hop. Her students have won several high point awards and have been featured in music videos, commercials for JC Penny, and the motion picture Dream Girls. With fourteen years of teaching experience under her belt, Francine is excited to call Cutting Edge Dance Center her new home.
